UKCA marking and regulatory time
In the European Union (EU), all industrial low voltage products must have the CE mark. At the same time, the ATEX directive containing the specific ATEX mark applies to LV products dedicated to explosive atmospheres. Before the implementation of the post-Brexit agreement on January 1, 2021, all EU countries (including the United Kingdom) recognized the CE mark.
Since then, trade in industrial and explosion-proof low-voltage products between the United Kingdom and countries still belonging to the European Union has become slightly more complicated. Manufacturers willing to provide services to the UK market must be marked with the UKCA mark. It should be noted that this will apply to the territories of England, Scotland and Wales (United Kingdom).
In order to help manufacturers in different fields, the UK government has issued new guidelines on placing products on the UK, Northern Ireland and EU markets. The revision of the regulations is gradual, and there are several dates to consider.
January 1, 2021: The UK needs UKCA. The 12-month transition period during which the CE mark remains valid begins.
January 1, 2022: The UK no longer recognizes the CE mark. The only applicable mark is the UKCA mark. One exception still exists: the placement of the UKCA mark can be permanent, but not mandatory. It can be applied to labels, packaging or individual information sheets.
January 1, 2023: The placement of the UKCA mark must be permanent.
As a global supplier of low voltage (LV) solutions, MARECHAL ELECTRIC is directly affected by these new requirements. MARECHAL ELECTRIC’s method of complying with the new UK regulations is detailed below.
MARECHAL ELECTRIC has taken action on two main themes: customs administrative procedures and regulatory requirements related to the UKCA mark. The following details how MARECHAL ELECTRIC will meet regulatory requirements.
MARECHAL ELECTRIC Group manufactures plugs and sockets and distribution boxes for industrial and explosion-proof environments. For these two types of products, the team will take different actions.
The UKCA mark for low-voltage industrial electrical equipment is a self-declaration. For such products, it will be gradually applied on the product and placed on the CE mark. The CE mark and the ISO 9001 certification of the MARECHAL ELECTRIC production base provide sufficient confidence in the application of the UKCA mark.
The method of placing the UKCA mark on ATEX products is slightly different because the UKEX certification must be provided by a third-party notified body located in the United Kingdom. The notified body also provides UKQAN certification for the company's production quality assurance.
The MARECHAL ELECTRIC ATEX series consists of 14 different series:

The PXN12C connector is part of the Marechal hazardous area plug DECONTACTOR™, the MARECHAL® technology used in most MARECHAL® plugs and sockets. It uses silver-nickel contact points and specific spring-loaded terminals to provide excellent connection performance and completely safe disconnection under loads up to 200 A.
In all these families, MARECHAL ELECTRIC will start the product certification process from DXN1 and DXN3. Since most European certification bodies have agreements with British certification bodies, MARECHAL ELECTRIC certification will be completed by the usual certification bodies. Then it will be recognized by the partner's local organization.
The quality system certification will still be based on the European ATEX certification. The UK certification simply transfers the certification to the new UK requirements.
Once product certification is obtained, MARECHAL ELECTRIC will permanently affix the UKCA logo on the product. Today, people have explored two possibilities:
-Add new tags to existing references,
-Use a new reference with a new mark.
-Marechal Electric: 65 years of industrial equipment expertise
-UKCA signs and hazardous area lighting-everything you need to know
-Use Marechal to prevent the risk of industrial electrical accidents
