Bingham came up with two out and the bases loaded and hit a line-drive over the head of center fielder Joe Lampe to give Arizona an 8-6 lead. Ryan Campos had a two-RBI single in the top of the first and his double to right-center in the seventh gave Arizona State (26-32) a 6-5 lead. Joe Lampe went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs for the Sun Devils.

A person with knowledge of the decision says Darvin Ham has accepted an offer to be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The person spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been publicly announced. The 48-year-old Ham is getting his first head coaching job as the 28th coach of the Lakers. He has been an assistant to Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks since 2018, playing a role in their run to the 2021 NBA title. Ham was an assistant with the Lakers from 2011-13.
Democrat Aaron Lieberman has ended his campaign for Arizona governor. The former state lawmaker said Friday there’s no viable path to victory. Lieberman struggled to gain traction against the Democratic front-runner, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. He says he owes it to his supporters to be honest with them about his unlikely chances of becoming governor. Lieberman founded two organizations focused on early childhood education before being elected to the Legislature in 2018. His departure from the race leaves two other major candidates seeking the Democratic nomination: Hobbs and former Nogales Mayor Marco Lopez.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says he wants to change the name of a notorious drug-producing area known as “the Golden Triangle” to “The Triangle of Good, Hard-Working People”. The remote, mountainous area in northern Mexico is where the three states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango meet. Drug cartels have long used the area to grow marijuana and opium poppies. But López Obrador said Friday during a visit to the region the name unfairly stigmatized residents. López Obrador has sometimes praised drug cartel leaders and in 2019 ordered the release of Ovidio Guzman, one of “El Chapo” Guzman’s sons, to avoid bloodshed.

Josh Donaldson was placed on the 10-day injured list by the New York Yankees due to right shoulder inflammation. New York made the move retroactive to May 24. The 36-year-old third baseman had been on the COVID-19 injured list and has not played since Sunday. Because the COVID-19 list does not count against the 40-man roster, the Yankees opened a roster spot by tranferring Chad Green to the 60-day injured list. Donaldson was sidelined by right shoulder inflammation while with Toronto from April 11 to May 3, 2018.

Ian Benjamin Rogers of Napa pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to destroy a building by fire or explosives, possessing an explosive device and possessing a machine gun. He acted under a plea agreement that could bring him seven to nine years in federal prison.
