The Goodwood Festival of Speed is all about showcasing performance and these sports cars are doing exactly that in some seriously cool liveries.

They say art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to appreciate primarily for their beauty or emotional power. As the original Top Gear trio famously tried to debate, a car CAN be art despite the fact that it has a purpose other than in itself being art.

Perhaps all that Clarkson, May, and ol' Hammie needed was the latest video posted by Goodwood Road & Racing YouTube channel entitled the nine best liveries at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022. This would perhaps quiet those snooty art critics, as these are the perfect examples of art.

Our first sports car is a Lancia Beta Montecarlo with a Martini racing-inspired livery. The car is a solid white with black, blue, and red stripes running along the top and side edges of the car. A very simple but quite capturing livery.

Without any doubt, the next car is the fan-favorite in the comments section of the video at the time of writing this article. A high-priced Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 with HKS, insanely colorful and in an even more insane 90s colored livery. The splashes of teal, purple, and orange blend fantastically with the green headlights and red mirrors. This is all set over a black paint that seems to just suck in any light that gets too close.

The cars continue with a black and teal Mercedes Black Arrow that does some very impressive donuts for the crowd, followed by a silver Audi A4 Quattro with giant red Audi circles plastered along the side of the car.

The next cars become more impressive, starting with the BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile which sports a white paint with fluorescent orange, medium blue, and dark blue stripes that follow the car's body lines around the entirety of the car including all around the hood. A true masterpiece. Keep in mind, this is not even about the car itself.

Next up is a Jaguar XJR 12D driven by Justin Law, sporting possibly the most American livery imaginable. Of course, the colors present red, white, and blue but with huge Castrol Motor Oil and Bud Light imprints scattered along the hood and sides.

In first place on the livery podium and the last car that we experience is the McLaren MP4/6 which is a white/red combo Indy style car with major sponsorships such as Shell, TAG Heuer and Goodyear slapped onto the sides and front. An honorable second place mention goes to a Shadow DN1 racecar with white paint and a massive red stripe running down the center of the car. As with any of these cars, the shape of the car is the canvas. Anyone can paint on a flat surface. Sometimes it takes a true artist to capture emotion and place it onto an unconventional surface, even if that surface happens to be a car.
